Puppy Training

For pups 8 weeks – 5 months

Puppies are so adorable—how can you resist them? But then they start peeing where they shouldn’t and chewing what isn’t theirs and biting you with those little needle-sharp teeth. And they don’t come pre-programmed to sit or come when asked, either, could also be really helpful. Where is that darned instruction manual?

We make puppy training easy—by doing your homework for you.

That’s right. We understand how busy you are, and how easily a puppy can overwhelm. We’ll train your dog in and around your home while you’re at work or running errands. Or, if you like, watch us in action.

Dog Training FAQ

Why do you do the training for me?

You wouldn’t hire a lawyer to teach you how to argue your case or a plumber to show you how to unclog your drain. Why hire a trainer to teach you to train your puppy? Our professional, certified trainer can get training results for you in a fraction of the time and with stronger, lasting results. And then she’ll teach you simple strategies for continued success.

And for puppies, the clock is ticking—the more training done now, the easier life will be with the adult dog your puppy will become. But our clients tend to be busy, so we like to get in there and do the heavy lifting for them.

Do I have to do anything to help with my puppy’s training?

So glad you asked! We’ll do the heavy lifting, but you still have a role to play. At our weekly coaching sessions, we’ll teach you some simple steps to keep your pup’s training strong for her lifetime. Your attendance at those coaching sessions is critical, as is your commitment to protect the puppy training we do for you.

What is socialization?

Socialization is the process of helping puppies grow up to be well-adjusted, easygoing adult dogs who are comfortable with the world around them and easily make new friends. Early socialization helps your puppy reach her full potential as an adult.

What does that mean to you? That any situation you’d like your dog to happily accept as an adult—including interacting with places, people, animals, objects, obstacles, and sounds—you must introduce her to safely, frequently, and positively before she reaches four months of age.

Does socialization guarantee that my puppy won’t have behavior problems as an adult?

Alas, no. There are no guarantees when it comes to behavior. Behavior issues can be driven by genetics or by bad or traumatic experiences. What you can do is give her the best possible chance to reach her full potential—and safe, early, effective socialization is a must for this. Think of it this way: Going to school doesn’t guarantee you’ll land a well-paid job either, but it sure ups your chances dramatically.

How long will it take to see results?

It’s considered unethical in the dog training profession to guarantee results, but our 10+ years of experience have shown us that packages give our clients the best chance of success by creating consistency and commitment—two key ingredients for training results.

Once we’ve had a chance to meet you and your puppy during your orientation, we’ll give you a better sense of what to expect based on your goals and your pup’s behavior. (For example, fear-based behavior takes longer to unravel than undesirable behaviors that are just bad habit.)

Isn’t my puppy too young for training?

No, the earlier the better! Puppies are like little sponges—they’ll learn more quickly now than at any point in their lives. And the learning experiences they have now will have a positive impact for a lifetime.

The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the Association of Professional Dog Trainers all strongly encourage early puppy training and socialization to help prevent unwanted behavioral issues in adult dogs.

Do you charge travel fees?

Nope. Everything is included in our package fees for dog training in Alexandria, Arlington, McLean, and Vienna, VA.

Keep It Cute Dog Training Puppy training experience

“I noticed positive changes immediately…”

“I entrusted my puppy Quib to Ariana’s training care. I noticed positive changes in Quib’s behavior immediately. Perhaps most impressive, however, was Quib’s increased confidence in encountering and navigating the world around him. I am proud to say he is an amazing, well-adjusted puppy who loves everything and everyone. I could not be more thrilled with our training results.” –Silke Sookraj
